London, 30 December: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the provisional squad for the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka and the T20 World Cup 2026, to be led by captain Harry Brook. Right-arm fast bowler Jofra Archer, who missed the Ashes series due to injury, has also been included in the squad, although he will not be part of the team for the Sri Lanka series.
In its statement, the ECB said, “The England men’s cricket selection committee has chosen the provisional squad for the white-ball series against Sri Lanka next month and for the T20 World Cup 2026. The series against Sri Lanka will include three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 matches. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February-March.”
The board added, “The team will depart for Sri Lanka on 18 January 2026. The ODI series will be played on 22, 24, and 27 January at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The three T20 matches will follow on 30 January, 1 February, and 3 February at the Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy.”
Susssex pacer Jofra Archer has been included in the provisional T20 World Cup squad. Currently recovering from injury, Archer will miss the Sri Lanka tour. Durham seamer Brydon Carse has been selected for the Sri Lanka tour but is not part of the World Cup squad. Nottinghamshire seamer Josh Tong has been named in the T20 squad for the first time. Surrey batting all-rounder Will Jacks is included in both squads, while Kent’s Jack Crawley returns to the ODI team after last playing in December 2023.
