New Delhi, April 3: Today, when discussing the defense sector, it is clear that self-reliance is our only option. This statement was made by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday.
He emphasized that our security must extend beyond land, sea, and air to include space, cyberspace, and economic domains. With this mindset, several significant policy decisions have been made, which are already showing results on the ground.
While in Visakhapatnam, the Defense Minister stated that whether in the Persian Gulf or the Strait of Malacca, our navy consistently maintains its presence in the Indian Ocean. Whenever a crisis arises, be it rescue operations or humanitarian assistance, our navy is always at the forefront. He clarified that we must not limit ourselves to coastal security but also ensure the protection of vital maritime routes, chokepoints, and digital infrastructure linked to our national interests.
He noted that the Indian Navy is proactively engaged in these security tasks. The Defense Minister pointed out that during times of tension, the Indian Navy has ensured the safety of our commercial vessels and oil tankers. The navy has demonstrated its capability not only to protect India’s interests but also to take necessary actions globally to safeguard our citizens and trade routes. This ability positions India as a responsible maritime power.
Rajnath Singh highlighted the positive contributions of defense PSUs in strengthening India’s security framework. He mentioned that we have 16 defense PSUs that are central to self-reliance in the defense sector. In today’s technological era, these PSUs are performing well, but they also took the lead during challenging times when the nation faced difficulties.
He stated that over the past decade, the country has experienced significant changes. The government has aimed to create an ecosystem for youth and industries that promotes innovation, manufacturing, and exports. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, defense manufacturing has been advanced as a national mission.
