New Delhi, February 16: The India AI Impact Summit 2026 commenced on Monday in the national capital. Senior policymakers and leaders emphasized the necessity of artificial intelligence (AI) for promoting inclusive development.
India’s Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) V. Ananth Nageswaran warned that delays in AI advancements each year limit economic and technological options.
Nageswaran stated, “India must take steps now to leverage the benefits of AI for promoting inclusive development.” He further noted that India could become the first major country where human prosperity and machine intelligence reinforce each other.
He urged the government, private sector, academics, and policymakers to collaborate as “Team India.” He also stressed the need to strengthen foundational education and widely disseminate high-quality skills.
He remarked that AI progress “will not happen on its own” and requires readiness, political will, and robust capabilities.
The CEA indicated that the first step towards AI-driven prosperity should begin with education and skill reforms, alongside expanding labor-intensive service sectors and removing regulatory barriers.
He cautioned that a lack of planned action could lead to social and economic instability.
S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, stated that AI development should be human-centered and democratically accessible.
Krishnan emphasized that the government’s key message is to ensure democratic access to AI resources while keeping people at the center of technological change. He remarked, “AI should have democratic access to resources, and it should be done in a way that places people at the heart of the process.”
He described AI as a powerful driver of economic growth, highlighting its potential to accelerate development not only in India but across all countries in the Global South.
