Election Dates Announced for 37 Rajya Sabha Seats Across 10 States

New Delhi, February 18: The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the election dates for 37 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states on Wednesday. The current term for these members will conclude in April 2026.

According to the ECI, voting for the 37 seats will take place on March 16, from 9 AM to 4 PM, with counting of votes beginning at 5 PM on the same day.

The notification for the elections will be issued on February 26. The last date for filing nominations is set for March 5, while the scrutiny of nomination papers will occur on March 6. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until March 9.

The states participating in these Rajya Sabha elections include Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana. Maharashtra will have 7 seats, Tamil Nadu 6, West Bengal and Bihar 5 each, Odisha 4, Assam 3, and Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and Telangana will each have 2 seats. Himachal Pradesh will have 1 seat contested.

Current Rajya Sabha members whose terms will end in April include Upendra Kushwaha, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Tiruchi Shiva, Saket Gokhale, Ramdas Athawale, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Sharadchandra Govindrao Pawar, Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, Mamta Mohanta, Rameshwar Teli, Indu Bala Goswami, Kavi Tejpal Singh Tulsi, NR Elango, Amarendra Dhari Singh, and Kiran Chaudhary.

To ensure fair and transparent elections, observers will be deployed by the Commission. The ECI has also clarified that only the purple sketch pen provided by the returning officer will be used for marking on the ballot paper. The Commission emphasized strict adherence to all election guidelines, ensuring the integrity of the Rajya Sabha elections will be maintained throughout the process.
