Eid Celebrations in Lucknow Under Tight Security Amidst Large Gatherings

Lucknow, March 21: Eid is being celebrated today in Uttar Pradesh under strict security measures. With a high alert in place, Eid prayers were conducted at various Eidgahs in Lucknow at different times. Approximately 50,000 people gathered to offer prayers at the Aishbagh Eidgah.

Maulana Khalid Rashid, President of the Islamic Center of India, urged the community to refrain from worshipping on the streets. The moon for Eid was sighted in Lucknow on Friday, leading to the announcement of Eid celebrations across all mosques in Uttar Pradesh, including Aishbagh Eidgah. The moon was not visible on Thursday, the 29th of Ramadan, thus confirming the sighting on Friday, the 30th of Ramadan. Maulana Rashid emphasized the importance of adhering to the guidelines issued for the prayers.

In light of the festivities, the administration has implemented robust security arrangements. Sensitive areas are under continuous surveillance via CCTV. To maintain traffic flow during the prayers, 21 routes have been diverted. A heavy police presence has been deployed in sensitive areas to ensure that Eid is celebrated peacefully and safely.

Minister Danish Azad Ansari stated, “Today is Eid, a very significant festival for the Muslim community. We all offered prayers peacefully here, and prayers are being held across Uttar Pradesh and the entire country.”

Congress state president Ajay Rai remarked, “Today we are all celebrating Eid. People are sharing joy, embracing each other, and spreading the message of brotherhood both nationally and internationally.”

DCP Vishwajeet Srivastava from the western region noted, “Thousands of people offer prayers at Aishbagh, one of the largest Eidgahs. It is a safe space for everyone, and all are encouraged to participate in the prayers. Comprehensive security arrangements have been made, with additional forces deployed from headquarters, including two Additional SPs, four Deputy SPs, eight companies of PAC, and two companies of RRF, alongside local police.”
