New Delhi, March 24: Delhi’s Education Minister Ashish Sood commended the 2026-27 budget presented by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday, labeling it a public-oriented green budget. He emphasized that this budget reflects the aspirations of the people and the government’s focused attention on the education sector.
Highlighting historic provisions in education, Sood noted that the allocation for this sector stands at 19,148 crore rupees, which is 18.64 percent of the total budget, showcasing the government’s priorities.
He stated that under Chief Minister Gupta’s leadership, the Delhi BJP government is consistently making solid efforts towards economic and social development, implementing the Vision Delhi 2025 at the grassroots level.
Sood stressed that the budget is not merely a document of figures. It determines the direction and status of both economic sectors like electricity, roads, and transport, as well as social sectors such as education, health, and women and child welfare.
He revealed that the budget for the previous Aam Aadmi Party government in 2024-25 was 76,000 crore rupees, which increased to 1,00,000 crore rupees in 2025-26, and has now reached 1,03,700 crore rupees for 2026-27, reflecting the government’s ongoing focus on development.
The Education Minister remarked that capital expenditure plays a crucial role in the development of any state. It has risen from 15,089 crore rupees in 2024-25 to 28,115 crore rupees in 2025-26, and further to 30,800 crore rupees in 2026-27, indicating strong infrastructure development and long-term growth.
As a result of these efforts, Delhi’s GDP growth rate reached 8.53 percent in 2025-26, surpassing the national average of 7.4 percent. Comparatively, in 2024-25, it was 6.21 percent, which was below the national average of 6.5 percent. Similarly, there has been a significant increase in per capita income.
He pointed out that the average monthly income rose from 23,676 rupees in 2024-25 to 25,453 rupees in 2025-26, reflecting a growth of 7.09 percent, which clearly indicates an improvement in the standard of living for citizens.
However, Sood emphasized that economic indicators like GDP growth, per capita income, and capital expenditure only hold significance when their benefits reach the common citizen.
