New Delhi, May 14: The BRICS Summit 2026 is set to commence this Thursday. Ahead of this two-day conference, India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with his Indonesian counterpart, Retno Marsudi.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Marsudi arrived in the national capital on Wednesday. Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister, Gedion Timotheos Hessebon, has also reached New Delhi to participate in the summit, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs on the social media platform X.
This high-level meeting will be chaired by Minister Jaishankar and is expected to include foreign ministers and senior representatives from BRICS member countries. Leaders and delegations from various nations are beginning to arrive in New Delhi for the meeting.
This will be the first major ministerial meeting under India’s BRICS presidency. It is anticipated to play a crucial role in setting the agenda for the BRICS Leaders’ Summit scheduled for later this year.
During a weekly media briefing in New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that senior diplomats from participating countries would attend this meeting. The ministry also outlined the broad framework for discussions during the two-day event.
According to the Ministry, the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting is scheduled for May 14 and 15, with India presiding over the proceedings.
The discussions will focus on key regional and global developments, strengthening multilateral cooperation among member countries, and advancing reforms in international governance structures in light of changing geopolitical realities. The ministry stated that participating countries would determine their own level of representation. More information regarding the delegations will be shared once representatives arrive in New Delhi.
Representatives attending the summit will also meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their visit to the national capital.
Recently, India unveiled the official logo and website for its BRICS 2026 presidency. Officials noted that this year’s summit theme reflects India’s “Humanity First” and a people-centered approach, emphasized by Prime Minister Modi during the BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 2025.
