New Delhi, February 11: The Dwarka Court held a hearing on Wednesday regarding the tragic death of a biker, Kamal Dhyani, who fell into a pit in Janakpuri. The court has requested a status report from the Delhi Police on the ongoing investigation into the incident.
During the hearing, the court instructed the police to provide a detailed report on the operational status of the CCTV cameras near the accident site. The court also sought clarification on the current stage of the investigation and the evidence collected so far. Additionally, it inquired whether CCTV footage is available and, if not, the reasons for the cameras’ malfunction.
Last Thursday, 25-year-old Kamal Dhyani died after falling into a pit that was dug as part of a Delhi Jal Board project. The Delhi Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the case: Rajesh Prajapati, the project’s sub-contractor, and site supervisor Yogesh Joginder Singh.
The FIR revealed serious lapses in safety measures at the project site. According to the FIR, the pit, which was excavated under the Delhi Jal Board project, was left open on the main road without any warning signs, reflectors, barricades, lighting, or security arrangements.
Furthermore, the FIR stated that the relevant department and contractor were aware that leaving an open pit on a public road without safety measures could endanger lives. Despite this knowledge, no precautions or security personnel were deployed.
In response to the incident, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered all departments to take timely action. She issued eight-point safety directives to ensure such incidents do not recur and emphasized strict enforcement of safety regulations. The Chief Minister also called for clear accountability among officials and contractors.
