Sanguda, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : Nestled in the serene landscape of Uttarakhand, the Maa Bhuvaneshwari Temple in Sanguda, Pauri Garhwal, stands as a significant spiritual site. This temple, revered for its divine energy, was established on March 21, 1757, and has since become a pilgrimage destination for many.
The temple not only attracts devotees with its spiritual aura but also captivates visitors with its tranquil surroundings. Recently, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami encouraged people to visit the temple, sharing a video on the social media platform X. He described it as a major center of faith and spirituality, set against a backdrop of stunning natural beauty. “When in Pauri Garhwal, be sure to visit this sacred temple,” he urged.
Located in the Bilkhet area of Pauri district, the temple rests in the holy embrace of the Narad Ganga. It lies on the route between Satpuli and Devprayag. According to local beliefs, Maa Bhuvaneshwari took the form of the Matrling Pindi to protect the sanctity of worship places during invasions.
Legend has it that in ancient times, traders would travel on foot from Najibabad and other markets to bring salt and jaggery. During one such journey, the Negi brothers from the village of Sainar encountered the Pindi of Maa Bhuvaneshwari while carrying a sack of salt. The goddess appeared in their dreams, instructing them to establish her Pindi in Sanguda. Following rituals and prayers, the installation took place on March 21, 1757.
Sanguda is considered the maternal home of the goddess, as it is associated with the Negi lineage. The land where the temple stands was once part of the estate of Maniyari Rawat, often referred to as the goddess’s in-laws. The responsibility for worship has traditionally been held by the Sailwal Brahmins, a practice that continues to this day.
This sacred site remains a beacon of faith and devotion, drawing countless visitors who seek spiritual solace and connection to the divine.
