Chennai, April 28: Director and writer Vijay Avatar is encountering significant challenges regarding the title of his upcoming film, ‘Kara.’ The controversy primarily stems from the action thriller film ‘Kara’ starring superstar Dhanush, which is also titled ‘Kara’ in English.
In an interview on Monday, Vijay expressed his concerns. He revealed that he and his team have been tirelessly working on ‘Kara’ for over three years. The film is based on India’s largest crocodile and is produced under the banner of Bhavani Entertainment, with Premnath as the co-producer. The cast includes renowned actors like Master Mahendran, Jiiva Tangavel, Mota Rajendra, and Sripoo Amman.
Vijay stated, “We have poured our blood and sweat into this project. The film is fully ready and set to release in theaters on May 15. However, just before the release, we are facing a barrier that is proving difficult to overcome.”
He pointed out that the root of the controversy lies with Dhanush’s film, produced by the Wells Company, which is set to release on April 30. He noted, “While Dhanush’s film has a different title in Tamil, it is also called ‘Kara’ in English. This similarity is causing significant damage to our film’s digital identity. Until January, anyone searching for ‘Kara movie,’ ‘Kara teaser,’ or ‘Kara director’ would find results related to our film. Now, that is no longer the case. Due to the promotion of Dhanush’s film, all information about ours has vanished from the internet. Only updates about his film appear in search results.”
Vijay has been struggling in the film industry for the past 25 years and is making his directorial debut with ‘Kara.’ He has high hopes for this film. He emphasized that the title clash will negatively impact the film’s business and distribution. He clarified that his fight is not against anyone’s success but rather to protect his identity.
In a heartfelt appeal, he stated, “We are seeking help from Dhanush, the Wells Company, and the honorable court. We have no issues with the earnings of their film; we just want our rights and our name back. As a writer and director, we are fighting solely for our identity.”
