Digvijaya Singh Urges Chief Minister to Address Farmers Issues in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, May 6: Former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh has called for the implementation of ‘Ease of Doing Farming’ in Madhya Pradesh, focusing on farmers’ issues. He has written to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, emphasizing the need to simplify agricultural processes in the state.

In his letter, Singh supported suggestions made by farmer leader Kedar Sirohi, stating that just as ‘Ease of Doing Business’ has streamlined commercial processes, similar reforms are essential in agriculture. He pointed out that farmers still face numerous complexities and unnecessary obstacles when purchasing seeds, changing transformers, selling crops, and obtaining and repaying loans.

Singh also highlighted the complicated process of crop insurance claims and the lack of transparency in fertilizer availability, which causes significant distress for farmers. He believes that implementing ‘Ease of Doing Farming’ could resolve these issues.

He suggested a comprehensive review of all departments related to agriculture, advocating for consultations with farmer representatives and agricultural scientists in policy-making. This approach could make the agricultural system in the state more straightforward, transparent, and farmer-friendly. Singh urged the Chief Minister to issue necessary directives for the swift implementation of ‘Ease of Doing Farming’ to bring about positive changes for farmers.

Earlier, on Friday morning, Singh met with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at the Chief Minister’s residence. During this meeting, Singh raised issues concerning farmers, particularly the challenges faced in the current wheat procurement process.

After the meeting, Singh stated that he informed the Chief Minister about the farmers’ troubles and stressed the need for timely solutions to ensure a smooth wheat procurement process. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav acknowledged that Singh had raised farmers’ issues, especially regarding wheat procurement.

The Chief Minister revealed that slots for purchasing over 8 million metric tons of wheat have already been booked, and the process is ongoing. He assured that efforts are being made to monitor arrangements closely to prevent any difficulties for farmers. During this time, Singh also invited Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to a religious event in his hometown of Raghogarh at the end of this month. Singh’s office confirmed the meeting, and a brief video from Jitu Patwari’s residence was released, although details of the discussion were not made public.
