Dewald Brevis once again displayed his explosive batting, setting a new record in the third T20 match against Australia on Saturday. The young South African batter scored a rapid half-century off just 22 balls at Cazalys Stadium, becoming the fastest player to score a fifty against Australia in Australia.

In his stormy innings, Brevis smashed four consecutive sixes in an over bowled by Aaron Hardie. His innings ended at the hands of Nathan Ellis, but not before he had hit six sixes in total. With this knock, Brevis broke Ravi Bopara’s long-standing record from 2014, when Bopara had scored a fifty in 23 balls at Hobart. Brevis achieved the feat in just 22 balls.
Brevis faced a total of 26 deliveries, hitting 6 sixes and 1 four, scoring 53 runs before being dismissed. In the previous match, he had also played an aggressive innings, reaching a half-century in 25 balls and scoring 125 runs off 56 deliveries, which included 12 fours and 8 sixes.
With this innings, Brevis now holds the record for the fastest T20 fifty against Australia in Australia. The previous record for South Africa in this regard was held by JP Duminy, who scored a fifty off 31 balls in 2009.
Interestingly, Brevis has struggled against Nathan Ellis, having scored only 3 runs off five balls in two innings and being dismissed twice.
In Saturday’s third T20 match, South Africa posted a total of 172 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs, with Brevis scoring 53 and van der Dussen contributing 38 runs. For Australia, Nathan Ellis took three wickets, while Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood picked up two wickets each.
