Devotees Gather for Grand Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar Temple
A significant number of devotees attended the Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, marking a sacred tradition on Ashwin Shukla Saptami.

Ujjain, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : The Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain witnessed a remarkable turnout of devotees on the occasion of Ashwin Shukla Saptami, as the Bhasma Aarti was performed on Saturday. Early in the morning, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets, following the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra.
After the divine adornment and the Bhasma Aarti, devotees were granted the opportunity to have darshan of Baba Mahakal. The temple resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal,” creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras.
As the temple opened, the ritual began with the ceremonial bathing of Lord Mahakal using Panchamrit, a mixture of water, milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices. The first bell was rung, and “Hari Om” was chanted as water was offered to the deity. Following the aarti with camphor, Baba donned a crown, and the Bhasma Aarti proceeded with the accompaniment of traditional instruments.
Baba Mahakal was beautifully adorned with bel leaves, a crown, and a rudraksha garland. Many devotees had queued since the previous night to witness the sacred Bhasma Aarti, eager to pay their respects to their beloved deity.
In accordance with tradition, the Mahanirvani Akhara presented the Bhasma Aarti to Baba Mahakal. It is believed that after the offering of ashes, Baba Mahakal reveals himself from the formless to the tangible. Devotees from various regions flock to Ujjain to partake in this revered ritual.
