Ujjain, March 24: On the sixth day of the Shukla Paksha in Chaitra month, a massive influx of devotees was witnessed at the Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Early in the morning, devotees lined up for hours to witness the divine adornment of Baba Mahakal and the world-renowned Bhasma Aarti. Eager to have a glimpse of Baba Mahakal and participate in the Aarti, the devotees displayed palpable excitement.
According to tradition, the temple doors opened at dawn. Many devotees were seen joining the Bhasma Aarti early in the morning, eager to have the darshan of the deity and observe the sacred rituals.
This Aarti is considered one of the most special and sacred traditions of the Mahakal Temple. With deep reverence, the devotees witnessed the Aarti and the accompanying rituals performed with great devotion. The Aarti is conducted by the Mahanirvani Akhara.
Once the temple doors opened, the worship in the sanctum sanctorum commenced. Following this, an Abhishek was performed using Panchamrit, a mixture of pure milk, fresh yogurt, ghee, sugar, honey, and various fruit juices. After the Abhishek, a grand Bhasma Aarti took place, where the ashes were offered to Baba, allowing him to manifest from the formless to the form, granting darshan to his devotees.
Everyone was eager to see Baba Mahakal and partake in the Bhasma Aarti. The atmosphere during the Aarti was filled with devotion, as devotees chanted “Har Har Mahadev” and “Om Namah Shivaya.” The joy of witnessing Baba during the Bhasma Aarti was evident on the faces of the attendees.
After the Bhasma Aarti, the divine adornment of Mahakal was revealed, where Baba was first adorned with sandalwood, a moon was placed on his forehead, and a new crown was donned, followed by a floral garland. Subsequently, the Kapoor Aarti was performed, and offerings were made. Each day, Baba is adorned in different ways.
