Devotees Flock to Mahakaleshwar Temple for Grand Bhasma Aarti

Ujjain, June 10: The world-renowned Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain witnessed a massive gathering of devotees on the occasion of the Dashami Tithi during the auspicious Purushottam month. The grand Bhasma Aarti was performed, attracting a large number of worshippers.

As per tradition, the temple doors were opened at 4 AM after seeking the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra, accompanied by the sounds of drums and trumpets. The moment the doors opened, the temple echoed with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and sacred mantras.

Following the opening of the temple gates, a divine abhishek of Lord Mahakal was performed using Panchamrit, made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and sugar, amidst the chanting of mantras. The entire temple resonated with the fervent cries of “Jai Shri Mahakal” and the sound of conch shells. After this, Lord Mahakal was adorned with special decorations.

A tripundra was placed on His head, and He was beautifully adorned with bhang, sandalwood, dried fruits, and jewelry, transforming Him into a regal figure that left the devotees in awe. After the special adornment, saints from the Mahanirvani Akhara offered Bhasma to Lord Mahakal. It is believed that during the Bhasma Aarti, Mahakal grants devotees a vision of His formless and manifested forms.

Subsequently, the Aarti was completed with camphor, and offerings were made. Devotees from all corners of the country and the world participated in the Bhasma Aarti, seeking the blessings of Lord Mahakal. The temple was alive with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras, creating an atmosphere filled with devotion and faith.

Traditionally, Bhasma was offered from cremation ashes, but now it is specially prepared from the dung of Kapila cows and medicinal herbs. Wearing traditional dhoti-sola for men and sarees for women is mandatory.

The Aarti of Baba Mahakal is famous both nationally and internationally, attracting everyone from common people to prominent personalities.
