Gandhinagar, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : A dengue outbreak has been reported among personnel in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, as they prepare for the National Unity Day parade. In the past two days, 24 individuals have tested positive for the virus at the local civil hospital. Many others are under observation following symptoms of fever and body aches.
Dr. Vipul Pandya, the Resident Medical Officer at Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, stated that 34 personnel were admitted on Thursday, with 23 confirmed dengue cases. By Friday evening, an additional five individuals were hospitalized, one of whom tested positive, while four others are being treated as suspected cases until their results arrive.
Dr. Pandya noted that the majority of the patients, aged between 25 and 30, are showing mild symptoms such as fever and body aches. Fortunately, none of the cases are severe, and by Friday afternoon, approximately ten patients were discharged, with expectations for more discharges in the coming days.
These personnel, arriving from various states including Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Bihar, are part of the preparations for the National Unity Day parade scheduled for October 31 in Ekta Nagar.
Dr. Pandya explained that the large group of personnel is residing together in a hostel, where arrangements were made for their accommodation. Although the hostel has not been identified as the source of the outbreak, the hospital has alerted state and district health teams to conduct an epidemiological assessment.
He emphasized that while medical professionals focus on patient care, public health experts will investigate further.
