New Delhi, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Delhi government continues its efforts to combat air pollution by promoting clean transportation through its Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026. Since its launch on July 1, more than 2,700 residents have received a total of ₹7.91 crore in incentives for vehicle purchases and scrapping. An official reported this development on Sunday.
As of October 8, the policy has attracted 7,782 applications for incentives, with ₹7.91 crore already distributed among beneficiaries. Of these, 2,707 individuals received ₹7.61 crore as purchase incentives, while 79 beneficiaries received ₹29.50 lakh for scrapping incentives.
The majority of the applications, totaling 7,706, pertain to two-wheeled vehicles. The Delhi EV Policy 2026 aims to address air pollution and contribute to the creation of a cleaner, greener city. Under this policy, buyers enjoy a 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees for eligible EVs, facilitating a shift towards electric mobility and paving the way for a sustainable future.
The policy’s goal is to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles through purchase incentives and promote the scrapping of eligible vehicles when new electric ones are bought. The data on applications and distributions provides a brief overview of the implementation of these provisions since the policy’s inception.
Among the 7,782 applications received, 7,706 are related to two-wheeled vehicles, including 116 applications for scrapping incentives. Additionally, the application data includes six submissions related to N1 category trucks with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3.5 tons, one of which is for scrapping. There have also been 70 applications for scrapping incentives for electric cars.
Under the scrapping incentive scheme, 79 beneficiaries have received payments totaling ₹29.50 lakh. This includes ₹5.50 lakh distributed to 55 beneficiaries in the two-wheeler category and ₹24 lakh awarded to 24 beneficiaries in the four-wheeler category.
The data indicates that both two-wheeler and four-wheeler owners benefit from the scrapping incentive scheme, although the total amount distributed favors the four-wheeler category.
