Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever Resigns After Failed Budget Talks
Bart De Wever resigns as Belgian Prime Minister following unsuccessful budget negotiations, leaving the political future uncertain.

Brussels, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever submitted his resignation to King Philippe on Monday after budget negotiations fell through. The king has yet to make a final decision regarding the resignation and plans to consult with leaders of various political parties in the coming days.
In a statement released on social media platform X, the royal palace confirmed the meeting between King Philippe and De Wever. The king expressed regret that an agreement on the budget could not be reached amid current challenges. He emphasized that Belgium cannot afford a prolonged political crisis during these significant geopolitical and economic challenges.
The palace further stated that the king is disappointed by the lack of a reliable budget agreement, highlighting the need for unity among political factions. He called on all parties to act responsibly and prioritize the nation’s interests, urging a spirit of compromise.
De Wever’s resignation followed unsuccessful discussions with his ministers regarding the budget. According to reports from The Brussels Times, the talks failed primarily due to demands from the Flemish Social Democrats, Christian Democratic and Flemish parties, and Francophone Centrists for tax increases on the “strongest economic shoulders,” which faced strong opposition from Francophone Liberals and Flemish nationalists.
De Wever met with King Philippe for over an hour and exited the palace shortly after 11 AM local time. If the king accepts the resignation, new election dates may be announced, although there is also a possibility of forming a new government based on previous electoral strengths.
All eyes are now on the upcoming meeting between King Philippe and Bart De Wever scheduled for Friday, which could determine the future political landscape of Belgium.
