
New Delhi, August 22: In a significant crackdown on illegal liquor transportation and supply, the Delhi Police’s Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) arrested three individuals. This operation resulted in the seizure of 778 quarters of illegal liquor, marked with Haryana seals, along with two taxis used for transporting the contraband.
The operation took place on August 21, 2026, when Head Constable Deepak, Head Constable Anuj, and Constable Mukesh were patrolling near Maujpur Chowk.
Around 6:30 AM, the police team received a tip-off indicating that two taxis carrying illegal liquor from Haryana would arrive near the Seelampur Metro Station. The informant also provided the taxi numbers.
Acting on this information, the police team arrived at the scene. By approximately 7:30 AM, both taxis reached the location and were intercepted. Three individuals were apprehended, while one suspect managed to flee.
Upon searching the vehicles, police recovered 399 quarters of illegal liquor from one taxi and 379 quarters from the other, totaling 778 quarters.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Vinit Chauhan (35), Akash Sharma (25), and Vishal (23). During interrogation, they allegedly provided information about the source of the illegal liquor. The police are verifying this information and conducting further investigations to identify other individuals involved in the supply chain.
An FIR under Section 33 of the Delhi Excise Act has been registered at the Seelampur Police Station, numbered 288/26. Authorities reported that none of the arrested individuals have a prior criminal record. The investigation is ongoing.
