Havana, May 3: Cuba has strongly condemned the escalating military threats from U.S. President Donald Trump. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel took to social media platform X to express that the American leader is raising military aggression against Cuba to a “dangerous and unusual level.”
Díaz-Canel appealed to the international community and the American public to decide whether they will allow such “serious criminal acts” to occur for the interests of a small but powerful and wealthy group engaged in revenge and dominance politics.
He asserted that no aggressor, “no matter how powerful,” can bend Cuba, which will instead face a “people committed to defending sovereignty and freedom.”
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla also commented on X, stating that Trump’s “clear and direct” threat of military action has escalated aggression against Cuba to a dangerous level.
Rodríguez noted that the public support for the Cuban revolution was prominently displayed on May Day, when millions took to the streets.
During an event in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump claimed that the U.S. could “very soon” take control of Cuba once he “finishes a job,” referring to ongoing tensions with Iran in the Middle East.
He also mentioned the possibility of sending the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to the Caribbean, which could stop just 100 yards off Cuba’s coast while returning from Iran.
Previously, Cuba rejected new U.S. sanctions as “unilateral,” asserting that these measures aim to collectively punish the Cuban people.
Bruno Rodríguez stated, “We completely reject the recent unilateral measures adopted by the U.S. government.” He added that these actions are extraterritorial and violate the United Nations Charter, emphasizing that the U.S. has no right to impose such sanctions on Cuba or any third country.
This response came after Trump signed an executive order on Friday to impose new sanctions on Cuba, instructing the blocking of related properties within or under U.S. control.
