Court Orders Seizure of Fugitive Arms Dealer Sanjay Bhandaris Assets

New Delhi, May 5: The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has ordered the seizure of certain assets belonging to fugitive arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari. The next hearing regarding the seizure of his remaining assets is scheduled for July 18.

Sanjay Bhandari faces serious allegations, including money laundering, tax evasion, and brokering defense deals. He fled to London in 2016 following a raid.

Since then, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been investigating and working to seize his assets both in India and abroad. The ED had petitioned the court to confiscate Bhandari’s properties, which he opposed. In the previous hearing, the court reserved its decision after hearing arguments from both sides.

Earlier, on January 31, the Rouse Avenue Court had also reserved its decision on the ED’s petition to seize Bhandari’s assets.

According to the ED, Bhandari possesses undisclosed properties not only in Delhi, Gurugram, and Noida but also in Dubai and the UK. The agency claims these assets are valued at over ₹100 crore. Following the recent court order, the process to take these properties into government custody may accelerate.

Bhandari is accused of having undeclared foreign income amounting to ₹655 crore and tax evasion of ₹196 crore. All eyes are now on the upcoming hearing on July 18.
