Controversy Erupts as Telangana CM Revant Reddy Draws Inspiration from Hitler

Hyderabad, June 7: Telangana Chief Minister Revant Reddy has landed in hot water over a controversial statement. He revealed that he drew inspiration from Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler for the name of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA). Following his remarks, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched sharp attacks on the Congress party.

In an interview with N. Ram, director of ‘The Hindu’ group in Bengaluru, Reddy stated, “HYDRA was Hitler’s favorite word. His core team was called HYDRA, which could eliminate anyone. That’s why I named it HYDRA after Hitler.”

The Telangana government established HYDRA in 2024 to protect public properties, manage disasters, and remove encroachments on government land in the Hyderabad region. The agency claims to have freed approximately 2,182 acres of land, valued at around ₹80,000 crore, by removing encroachments from lakes, drains, parks, and government properties.

However, opposition parties have long questioned HYDRA’s actions, alleging that the agency targets the homes of the poor. BRS chief and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has already announced that his party will prioritize abolishing HYDRA upon returning to power.

K. T. Rama Rao (KTR), the executive president of BRS, sharply criticized Reddy’s statement on the social media platform X. He remarked that the people of Telangana already knew that the Chief Minister’s inspiration was Hitler and that HYDRA serves as his “assassination agency.” KTR emphasized that BRS has always based its governance on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Constitution, Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals, and the dreams of Professor Jayashankar.

Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy also condemned the Chief Minister’s remarks, stating that Congress’s “Hitler and Emergency mindset” has resurfaced. He urged Revant Reddy to express embarrassment over his statement and apologize unconditionally to the people of Telangana.

Meanwhile, N. Ramchander Rao, president of the BJP’s Telangana unit, remarked that those who follow Hitler meet a similar fate. He also challenged the Chief Minister to a public debate regarding the development works of both the central and state governments.

During an event in Mahbubnagar, Ramchander Rao criticized Reddy’s comments about Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandisanjay Kumar, stating that the Chief Minister’s language was unbecoming of his position and reflected arrogance.
