New Delhi, July 21: The political atmosphere in the capital has intensified due to police action against students and recent protests. Under the leadership of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress MPs staged a protest near the Prime Minister‘s residence. Several senior party leaders and MPs participated, expressing solidarity with the students.
Congress leaders have accused the police of using batons and tear gas during the student protests, resulting in injuries to many students. The party criticized the government’s actions, linking them to democratic rights and the voices of the youth.
MP Ranjeet Ranjan claimed in a conversation, “A large number of students have been injured, and many are hospitalized. Some students have even suffered broken limbs. This situation is a result of the government’s policies, and there should be a fair investigation.”
Meanwhile, Congress MP Rajeev Shukla stated, “The party is protesting against the alleged atrocities on students and in support of the injured students and their families. It is the government’s responsibility to seriously listen to the concerns of the students.”
Rajya Sabha member Praveen Chakravarty called for the entire incident to be discussed in Parliament. He said, “The future of the country’s youth is the most important issue, and if a large number of students are taking to the streets to express their concerns, there should be a comprehensive discussion in Parliament. Dialogue is the solution to problems in a democracy.”
Additionally, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MPs expressed concern over the protests at Jantar Mantar. MP Sulata Dev mentioned, “I shared a video on social media showing the use of force against women and female students while removing protesters. There should be sensitive treatment towards the demonstrators.”
BJD MP Santrupt Mishra also stated, “My party is saddened by the police action against students in Delhi. If students are presenting their demands peacefully, the government should listen to them and establish proper dialogue.”
The Aam Aadmi Party also targeted the central government on this issue. Party leader Gopal Rai accused the government of trying to suppress the voices of students and youth. Party spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar emphasized that the government should have opted for dialogue instead of confrontation. She demanded serious discussions on the complaints of students and issues related to the education system.
Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka remarked, “The new generation is concerned about their expectations and future, and they are trying to voice their opinions. Understanding the feelings and concerns of the youth is the responsibility of every government. The opposition is continuously demanding discussions on this issue in Parliament, while various political parties are voicing their opinions on student rights, democratic protests, and education-related questions.”
