Congress Leader Jitu Patwari Accuses Madhya Pradesh Government of Covering Up Alcohol-Related Deaths in Dewas

Jitu Patwari criticizes the Madhya Pradesh government for its handling of alcohol-related deaths, claiming corruption and negligence.

Dewas, October 27 (Daily Kiran) : Jitu Patwari, the head of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee, has accused the government led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav of protecting the alcohol mafia following a series of deaths in Dewas linked to allegedly tainted liquor. Patwari claims that at least 20 people have died from consuming contaminated alcohol.

Speaking to reporters, Patwari expressed concern over what he described as a continuing trend of government negligence leading to mass fatalities in the state. He pointed to previous incidents, including deaths in Morena from illegal, toxic alcohol, and over a hundred fatalities in Sagar, asserting that the government has failed to learn from these tragedies.

In Dewas, he alleged that attempts have been made to suppress information about the recent deaths. He recounted a conversation with the district collector, who reportedly denied the presence of poison in the alcohol, despite conflicting statements from other administrative officials.

Patwari noted that some individuals involved in selling the toxic alcohol have been arrested. He questioned the rationale behind these arrests if the alcohol was not poisonous, suggesting that the mafia has a strong grip on the government. “The alcohol mafia is running the government from the fifth floor,” he said, highlighting widespread corruption that has left citizens disillusioned and distressed.

He announced plans to visit Dewas to demand accountability from the government and urged Chief Minister Yadav to take a more proactive and positive stance on the issue. Patwari emphasized the need for the government to address its shortcomings rather than attempting to hide them. He called for stringent action against the alcohol mafia and mentioned that he has also written to the Union Home Minister regarding the matter.

Patwari concluded by stating that the Congress party will oppose such government negligence and that they will be taking questions from the families of victims to the collector. He stressed the importance of developing a comprehensive action plan to combat illegal toxic alcohol in the state. “The government must show resolve; otherwise, we will be left with no choice but to believe that the mafia is running the government,” he warned.
