Punjab Speaker Vows Strict Action Against Gun Violence Perpetrators

Punjab Speaker Kuldeep Singh Sandhu pledges no leniency for gun violence offenders during a press briefing in Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, October 27 (Daily Kiran) : On October 27, during the final day of the Punjab Assembly session, Speaker Kuldeep Singh Sandhu addressed reporters about the government’s initiatives under the Aam Aadmi Party. He highlighted the establishment of a Special Road Safety Force (SSF), which he claims is saving thousands of lives each month.

Sandhu expressed concern for the urban poor, stating that for the first time, people from all backgrounds are feeling supported. He noted that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s decision to waive electricity bills is a significant step forward for these communities.

Regarding the rising incidents of gun violence, Sandhu extended his sympathies to the affected families, asserting that the perpetrators would not be spared. “Strict action will be taken,” he vowed. He contrasted the current government’s approach with that of previous administrations, which he claimed failed to apprehend offenders.

Tensions escalated in the assembly when Congress legislators were prevented from entering. Punjab’s opposition leader, Pratap Singh Bajwa, criticized this action, questioning the legality of blocking members at the gate. He emphasized that the objections were directed at Sukhpinder Singh Khaira, yet he was being barred without proper justification.

In response, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal dismissed the claims of obstruction, stating that the Speaker was indeed calling for them. “There is no issue; they are just fabricating stories,” he said, accusing the opposition of spreading falsehoods for publicity.
