Congress Demands Resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar Over Election Controversy
Congress leaders in Raipur call for Gyanesh Kumars resignation, citing concerns over voter rights and election integrity.

Raipur, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Former Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, T.S. Singh Deo, has targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar amid a controversy surrounding the Election Commission. Singh Deo criticized the Commission for publishing a joint statement that featured images of the Chief Election Commissioner alongside the other election commissioners, indicating that the decisions were made collectively. He noted that the Commission has assured that such an incident will not occur again in the future.
Demanding Kumar’s resignation, Singh Deo stated that he should have stepped down voluntarily. The Election Commission acknowledged its shortcomings in a notification issued on September 29 and directed corrective measures to address the identified issues.
Singh Deo emphasized that any actions contrary to the law and constitution are linked to the fundamental rights of voters. The constitution guarantees every citizen the right to vote, and those acting against it should face consequences.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma remarked that the Congress Seva Dal was compelled to initiate a satyagraha on October 2, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti. He accused Gyanesh Kumar of transforming the Delhi office of the Election Commission into a hub for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Verma also questioned the process of compiling the voter list, demanding the filing of sedition charges against Kumar and calling for his resignation. He criticized Kumar’s actions, suggesting they favor one political party, which he deemed detrimental to democracy. Verma insisted that names removed from the voter list through the SIR process should be reinstated, urging Kumar to resign promptly.
He reiterated that the Congress party had been opposing the SIR for a considerable time, but their concerns were dismissed. Now that the truth has surfaced, Verma accused the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) of spreading falsehoods, which he claimed is harmful to the nation.
