New Delhi, March 20: The Congress party has released another list of candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, featuring 22 names from key constituencies across the state.
According to an official statement from the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the Central Election Committee has approved candidates for seats in Lower Assam, the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Upper Assam, and the Barak Valley.
Prominent names in the latest list include Manik Chandra Brahma from Kokrajhar (ST), Sapali Marak from Baokhungri, Mohammad Ashraful Islam Sheikh from Parbatjhora, and Baby Begum from Dhubri. The party has also fielded Aftab Uddin Mollah from Jaleshwar and Pradeep Sarkar from Abhayapuri.
In the BTR region, Congress has nominated Matilal Narzari from Sidli (ST), Jagdish Madahi from Baksa (ST), Rafi Daimari from Tamulpur (ST), and Soren Daimari from Udalguri (ST), indicating its intent to strongly contest in tribal-majority constituencies.
From Upper Assam, candidates include Asif Mohammad Nazar (Laharighat), Durlav Chamua (Nagaon-Batadrava), Sunil Chhetri (Naduah), Joyanto Khound (Rongonadi), Ghana Buragohen (Lakhimpur), and Anand Narah (Dhakuakhana-ST). Sibananth Chetia will contest from Makum, while Roselina Tirki will run from Khumtai.
In the hilly and Barak Valley belt, Sanjeeb Teron will contest from Hawraghat (ST), and Jubair Anam Majumdar will run from Algapur-Katlicherra.
This announcement is part of the party’s ongoing candidate declaration process, which aims to cover multiple constituencies with a mix of current leaders, new faces, and community representatives.
Congress is striving to balance experienced leadership with new entrants while focusing on social and regional representation. The Assam Assembly elections are expected to witness a multi-cornered contest, with Congress aiming to regain lost ground against the ruling BJP-led alliance.
