Lucknow, May 1: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the ‘Labor Honor Ceremony 2026’ at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow on Friday. He emphasized that there will be no compromise on the rights of workers, stating, “Fair wages must be paid for work; otherwise, the government will take action against those who refuse.”
During the event, he launched several welfare schemes for laborers and distributed certificates and toolkits to workers from various districts, honoring them for their contributions. Out of 75 selected workers from across the state, five were specially recognized on stage with toolkits. Additionally, tablets were distributed to meritorious students from Atal Residential Schools, and principals from schools in Prayagraj and Jhansi were also honored.
In his address, CM Yogi highlighted that Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the ‘Enterprise State,’ becoming a growth engine for the country’s economy. From 1947 to 2017, approximately 14,000 industries were established in the state. However, since 2017, over 18,000 new industries have been set up, providing millions of job opportunities.
Referencing the challenges posed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chief Minister criticized the opposition, stating that while many leaders were inactive, his government took significant steps to support workers. Thousands of buses were deployed to bring back migrant workers, and arrangements for free food and shelter were made. Additionally, ration cards were issued to provide free rations, a service that continues today. The Chief Minister reiterated that the state government is consistently working towards the social and economic empowerment of laborers. Under the Ujjwala scheme, millions of families have received gas connections, and a large number of people are now benefiting from free rations.
He also mentioned that strict actions are being taken against those infringing on the rights of the poor. Highlighting initiatives in education and health, CM Yogi stated that Atal Residential Schools are being operated for the children of laborers, providing quality education.
He announced the foundation stone for a new composite school for laborers’ children in Jewar (Noida). Regarding health facilities, the Chief Minister noted that the Ayushman Bharat scheme is providing free treatment to the poor, and an announcement was made for issuing Ayushman cards to eligible laborers. Families of workers who die in accidents will receive insurance coverage of up to five lakh rupees.
Discussing housing and sanitation schemes, he stated that millions of people have been provided with homes in recent years, and a significant number of toilets have been constructed, leading to an improved standard of living.
