Nagoya, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : The Chinese women’s volleyball team triumphed over Japan with a decisive 3-0 victory in the final of the Asian Games held in Nagoya on September 22, 2026. This win marks their record 10th gold medal in the tournament. Meanwhile, Thailand claimed the bronze medal by defeating South Korea 4-0 in the playoff match.
The first set showcased a fierce competition between the two teams. China gradually built a lead, ultimately winning the set 25-19. In the second set, China maintained a slight advantage throughout. Both teams engaged in intense rallies, but China secured the set 25-20.
At the start of the third set, Japan displayed aggressive play, taking an early lead of 7-1, prompting China to call a timeout. After regrouping, China regained their momentum, leveraging their strong serving and blocking to equalize the score at 19-19. Following four deuce points, China clinched the set 25-23, sealing the match. This victory follows their previous win over Japan in straight sets at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
Earlier, in the semifinals, China edged out Thailand with a close 3-2 victory, avenging their loss in the final of the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship the previous month. In the other semifinal, Japan defeated South Korea 3-0 to advance to the gold medal match.
The competition featured 14 teams divided into four groups, including China, Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, and Chinese Taipei, all of whom reached the quarterfinals.
