Beijing, March 26: On March 24, during the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, China’s permanent representative to the UN office in Geneva, Chia Kuite, delivered a joint speech on behalf of 60 countries.
He emphasized the numerous human rights issues embedded in the global governance initiative and urged all parties to collaborate in establishing a fair, just, cooperative, and mutually beneficial global human rights governance system.
Chia highlighted the current international landscape as highly complex, noting that the UN and multilateralism are facing significant challenges, necessitating a substantial enhancement in the effectiveness of global governance. The Chinese side proposed three key suggestions: first, to adhere to sovereign equality and reject double standards in the name of human rights; second, to reform the UN human rights sector by upholding multilateralism; and third, to advocate for a people-centered approach that prioritizes the right to development within a broader multilateral human rights agenda.
It is noteworthy that Chinese President Xi Jinping introduced the global governance initiative in September 2025, which has garnered support from over 150 countries and international organizations.
