Chinas State Council introduces its inaugural five-year plan focused on the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.

Beijing, October 20 (Daily Kiran) : The Chinese State Council’s Information Office held a press conference on October 20, 2026, to unveil the “15th Five-Year Plan for Cultural Heritage Preservation and Promotion.” This marks the first time China has developed a dedicated five-year plan for cultural heritage conservation.
According to the head of the Central Cultural Heritage Preservation Committee, the plan encompasses 12 main sections and 12 special pillars. It aims to promote the preservation of immovable and movable cultural heritage, intangible cultural assets, and historical cities, towns, and villages.
The primary objective is to establish a comprehensive inventory of cultural heritage resources by 2030, alongside a well-organized regulatory system, a strengthened legal framework, an expanded talent pool, effective conservation and oversight mechanisms, and a foundational cultural heritage preservation structure.
During the duration of the 15th Five-Year Plan, a project will be launched to safeguard and promote historical and cultural cities, blocks, villages, and towns across China. A conservation implementation mechanism will be established, with local residents as the key participants, allowing for gradual, small-scale restoration efforts.
