Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation Seeks Strict Action Against Assault on Employee

Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation demands legal action under PASA after an employee was assaulted while on duty.

Gandhinagar, October 20 (Daily Kiran) : The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) has called for stringent legal action against an individual accused of assaulting and threatening a municipal employee involved in capturing stray cattle. The GMC has requested that the Prevention of Anti Social Activities Act (PASA) be invoked against the suspect.

Municipal Commissioner J.N. Vaghela submitted a formal complaint detailing an incident that occurred on October 17. The complaint highlights that the accused has previously intimidated the corporation’s cattle-catching teams and obstructed their work.

According to the municipal body, the incident took place around 5:50 PM when an employee stationed at the cattle pound in Sector 30 was heading towards the main office in Sector 17. While taking pictures of stray cows for official purposes on the road leading to CH-7, the employee was verbally abused, slapped, and physically assaulted by the individual, who also issued death threats.

The GMC reported that this same person has a history of threatening team members responsible for capturing stray animals, as well as following them and interfering with their official duties.

Based on the available facts and evidence, the Commissioner has directed that action be taken under PASA and other relevant legal provisions. This request for preventive detention comes at a time when the municipal body is actively working to manage the issue of stray animals without interruption.

The corporation’s Cattle Nuisance Control Department (CMCD) is working around the clock to address the problem of stray cattle under the “Stray Cattle Nuisance Prevention Policy-2023.” The GMC has assured that it will take necessary safety and legal measures to ensure that employees involved in this campaign can perform their duties without fear. It emphasized that any assault, intimidation, or obstruction of public servants will not be tolerated.

The complaint calls for action against the accused, who has repeatedly disrupted the corporation’s work. Any action under PASA will follow the established legal processes and the decision of the competent authority.
