
Beijing, April 25: China is celebrating its 11th Space Day today, marking the 70th anniversary of its space program. The main ceremony is taking place in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province in southwestern China.
The China National Space Administration (CNSA) has made several significant announcements on this occasion. Analysis of Chang’e-5 lunar samples has confirmed the discovery of two new minerals: ‘Magnesium Chang’asite’ and ‘Cerium Chang’asite.’ For the Tianwen-3 Mars mission, five international collaboration projects have been selected, which exhibit high scientific value and technological maturity. Additionally, opportunities for global collaboration on the ‘Shihe-2’ solar mission have been announced. The first version (1.0) of the commercial space standards system has also been released.
CNSA Administrator Shan Chongde stated that during the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), China will accelerate major projects in human spaceflight, lunar exploration, planetary exploration, and national satellite internet. He noted that China will also rapidly advance projects involving heavy launch rockets, reusable rockets, and a new generation of national space infrastructure.
Shan further emphasized that China will deepen international cooperation in lunar and planetary exploration, asteroid defense, on-orbit servicing, and space debris management. Moreover, China will focus on the construction of an International Lunar Research Station and active participation in global space governance.
