Dehradun, August 24: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated stalls set up by self-help groups under the ‘Chief Minister Empowering Women Festival Scheme’ in Dehradun. During his visit, he encouraged the women associated with these groups.
The Chief Minister also purchased handmade rakhi from local women, who tied rakhi on his wrist, considering him as a brother. He wished for their bright future and praised their skills and hard work.
CM Dhami stated that the ‘Empowering Women Festival Scheme’ has provided numerous employment opportunities for women, benefiting many last year as well. This initiative was launched a few years ago during the Raksha Bandhan festival. Under this scheme, women create a variety of products, including millet-based items, sewing and weaving goods, woolen products, prasad, laddus, food items, jams, pickles, and bakery products made from coarse grains. Beautiful rakhis and other Raksha Bandhan-related items were also displayed. The aim is to provide these products with a shared platform and marketing opportunities. The quality of the products made by these women is commendable.
He emphasized that rail, road, and ropeway projects are among the government’s priorities. Significant progress has been made in road infrastructure, including the opening of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor Expressway and all-weather roads for the Char Dham pilgrimage. The focus is also on improving connectivity across the state.
To expedite ropeway projects, the Chief Minister instructed officials during a meeting at the government residence to prioritize the pending processes related to 50 proposed ropeway projects under the Parvatmala project. He reviewed the reasons for delays in projects that have received in-principle approval and set new timelines. Information on major ropeway projects, including Sonprayag-Kedarnath, Tanakpur-Purnagiri, Kathgodam-Nainital, Govindghat-Hemkund Sahib, Kanakchauri-Kartik Swami, Dehradun-Mussorie, and Jankichatti, was also gathered.
During the meeting, officials received necessary directions regarding proposed ropeway projects in the Haridwar-Rishikesh area, the progress of Uttarakhand Ropeway Development Limited, and future project grounding. They were instructed to integrate adequate parking facilities into each ropeway project and to simplify the licensing and approval process to encourage private investment. Effective coordination with investors and a solid action plan are essential to expedite more ropeway projects through the PPP model.
