Olivia Colman Shares Secrets to a Lasting Marriage
Olivia Colman reveals the key to her long marriage, emphasizing kindness and effective communication in relationships.

Los Angeles, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Hollywood actress Olivia Colman has opened up about the secrets behind her enduring marriage to producer Ed Sinclair. In a recent interview, Colman emphasized the importance of kindness and effective communication in maintaining a strong relationship over the years.
The couple tied the knot in August 2001 after meeting in the 1990s while working on a production of Alan Ayckbourn’s play “Table Manners” at Cambridge University. Their collaboration was part of the Cambridge Footlights, a well-known student sketch comedy society.
During a discussion about her new film “Wicker,” Colman also spoke with the popular TikTok couple Benedict and Hannah Townsend, who recently celebrated four years of marriage. They inquired about how Colman and Sinclair have managed to stay together for 25 years.
Colman advised, “Be kind to each other. We’ve learned over the years to avoid reacting immediately to certain issues. I once heard from someone who had been married for nearly 50 years that sometimes, it’s the things you don’t say that matter.”
She acknowledged that while this advice is wise, not everyone may agree with it. Colman stressed the importance of waiting for the right moment to address issues and expressing thoughts calmly.
Known for her role in “The Crown,” Colman revealed that she and her husband generally avoid conflict. “I don’t like confrontation, and my husband feels the same way. However, we’ve learned to discuss any concerns quietly over the years,” she explained.
Colman provided an example of how she might approach a conversation with her husband: “Can we talk about what happened on Tuesday?” According to her, choosing a calm and relaxed time for discussions is preferable.
She noted that sometimes, when initiating a conversation, the other person may not even be aware of the issue at hand. However, if one person feels hurt, it is crucial to address the matter together.
Colman also remarked that while some people find it effective to discuss issues immediately after an incident, that approach does not work for her.
This advice comes just months after Colman expressed her feelings of being non-binary and mentioned that her husband has always described her as a “gay man.”
