Chhattisgarh Police Cracks Down on Drug Network, Seizes 47 Kg of Cannabis

Mahasamund, April 21: The Chhattisgarh police achieved a significant victory in their ongoing campaign against drug trafficking in Mahasamund district. In a joint operation by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force and Komakhan police, a major cannabis smuggling operation was uncovered. Authorities seized 47.3 kilograms of cannabis, valued at approximately ₹23.65 lakh.

The police also confiscated assets worth ₹59.51 lakh, including the truck, car, mobile phones, and cash used in the smuggling operation. Three suspects were arrested during the operation, while legal action was initiated against two minors involved.

The police received a tip-off about a truck transporting a large quantity of cannabis from Odisha to Chhattisgarh. Following this information, a blockade was set up in the Komakhan area to inspect vehicles. Shortly after, a suspicious truck was stopped and searched, revealing cannabis hidden in a special chamber beneath the driver’s seat and in plastic bags.

During questioning, it was revealed that this shipment originated from the Kalahandi region of Odisha and was intended for distribution in the Mungeli district. Investigations indicated that the smuggling network is connected to the Balangir area in Odisha. Among those arrested are the truck driver and his accomplice, while a suspect from Mungeli district was also identified, who was allegedly to receive the cannabis delivery.

The arrested individuals include Mohammad Miraj (Balangir, Odisha), Rohit Pond (Balangir, Odisha), and Deepak Sahu (Mungeli, Chhattisgarh).

According to Mahasamund police, a continuous campaign against drugs has been underway for the past three months in the district. During this period, over 5,685 kilograms of cannabis have been seized in 74 cases, leading to the arrest of 192 suspects, including individuals from other states.

The police are now conducting an “end-to-end investigation” to examine the cannabis supply chain, source points, financial links, and destination networks. Officials state that further actions against other members of this gang will be taken soon.
