Chennaiyin FC Holds FC Goa to a 1-1 Draw in Thrilling ISL Match

Chennai, March 22: In an exciting encounter in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026, Chennaiyin FC managed to draw 1-1 against FC Goa on Sunday. This draw in their first home match of the season earned Chennaiyin a crucial point. They will next face newly introduced team Inter Kashi on April 7 in the league.

Head coach Clifford Reyes Miranda gave Eduardo Kahu his first start of the season in place of the injured Mohammad Ali Bemammer. Maheson Singh and Daniel Chima Chukwu also made their way into the starting lineup. The Marina Machans had to stay alert right from the start. Goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz made a fantastic save in the eighth minute, followed by strong defensive work from Lalrinliana Renthlei to avert danger.

Chennaiyin FC quickly found their rhythm and began to apply pressure on the opposition. In the 11th minute, a brilliant move unfolded as Imran Khan passed the ball to Chima. Chima skillfully set it up for Maheson, but Maheson’s initial shot hit the outer post and went wide. Shortly after, Farukh Chaudhary tested the goalkeeper with a curling shot from distance, further asserting Chennaiyin’s dominance in the match.

However, the team faced a setback when Chima had to leave the field due to injury. Irfan Yadav replaced him and made an immediate impact. The forward earned a corner and later forced the goalkeeper into a save with a powerful shot. Meanwhile, Maheson continued to send dangerous balls into the opponent’s box. Nawaz remained calm and composed, ensuring that both teams went into halftime level.

Chennaiyin maintained their momentum into the second half and were rewarded shortly after the restart. In the 48th minute, Irfan capitalized on a defensive error from the opposition. He kept his composure and slotted the ball into the net, giving Marina Machans a vital lead. He continued to trouble Goa’s defense, earning another corner as Chennaiyin sought to strengthen their advantage.

The visiting team found a way back in the 88th minute. Nawaz initially denied Dejan Dragić with a strong save, but from the subsequent corner, Sandesh Jhingan equalized with a header, making the score 1-1. In stoppage time, Chennaiyin pressed again. Alberto Noguera fell to the ground after a strong tackle inside the box, but the referee only awarded a corner. Moments later, Nawaz made another brilliant save with his foot, keeping the score level.
