Central Cabinet Approves Ganga-Varuna Elevated Corridor, BJP Workers Celebrate in Varanasi

Varanasi, July 15: The central government has granted approval for the construction of a state-of-the-art six-lane Ganga-Varuna Elevated Corridor along the banks of the Ganga River. This announcement has sparked a wave of enthusiasm among BJP workers in Varanasi. At the Gulab Bagh BJP office in Sigra, party members celebrated by sharing sweets with one another. BJP leaders hailed this project as a historic achievement for the development of Kashi, stating it will significantly improve the city’s traffic system, reduce congestion and pollution, and boost tourism and trade.

Legislator Saurabh Srivastava remarked that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Kashi has witnessed unprecedented development over the past 12 years. He emphasized that Kashi, a city of faith, liberation, and culture, had not received the respect and growth it deserved from previous governments. The construction of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham corridor has led to a substantial increase in the number of pilgrims, thereby enhancing the local economy and per capita income. In light of the growing number of visitors, projects such as bridges, ring roads, and ropeways have been initiated. The Ganga-Varuna Elevated Corridor is being designed with future needs in mind.

He added that this corridor will play a crucial role in the development of the Ramnagar area across the Ganga, where hotels, guest houses, and other tourism facilities will be developed, creating new job opportunities for locals. Pilgrims will be able to park their vehicles across the river and walk to Kashi Vishwanath Dham, alleviating traffic pressure in the city’s interior. This will significantly boost trade and strengthen Kashi’s economy.

Varanasi Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari stated that Prime Minister Modi has set a new direction for the city by launching development projects worth approximately ₹25,000 crores. Such projects were unimaginable just a few years ago. The work done to strengthen Kashi’s infrastructure under Modi’s leadership is historic. Currently, a large number of pilgrims visit Baba Vishwanath Dham daily, increasing traffic pressure in the city. However, once projects like the Ganga-Varuna Corridor and ropeway are completed, many people will enter the city from the other side of the Ganga, significantly reducing congestion.

He noted that tourism is a major pillar of Varanasi’s economy. The influx of pilgrims and tourists directly benefits hotels, transportation, handicrafts, Banarasi sarees, local markets, and other business activities. This new project will greatly strengthen both tourism and local trade.

Nirmala Singh Patel mentioned that since 2014, Prime Minister Modi has completely transformed Kashi. She described the Ganga-Varuna Elevated Corridor as a historic gift worth ₹25,000 crores, stating that it will completely change the city’s transport network. This corridor will connect areas across the Ganga with major city routes, BHU, Harhua, and other important locations. Together with modern projects like the ropeway, it will play a vital role in making Varanasi one of the most modern religious and cultural cities in the country. She wished for the health and longevity of the Prime Minister, stating that under his leadership, Kashi is establishing a new identity on the global stage.

Local resident Roopshree Sengupta expressed gratitude for the ongoing development efforts in Kashi. She believes this new project will provide convenience to residents and promote trade. She hopes that such development initiatives will continue in the future. Saurabh Chatterjee added that rapid development has been taking place in Kashi over the years, and the Ganga-Varuna Elevated Corridor will be a significant link, making access to the city easier and improving the movement of large vehicles.

Advocate Vivek Singh expressed his joy, stating that this project will reduce both distance and time. He congratulated the central government for this initiative.

Vineet Shukla mentioned that this will alleviate traffic jams and chaos, making travel to Kashi much easier for tourists. With an increase in the number of tourists, it is evident that trade will also see a rise.

Padma Shri awardee Dr. Rajnikant thanked Prime Minister Modi once again for providing a significant gift that enhances and promotes Kashi’s rich heritage. He noted that the impact of Kashi’s development resonates globally.
