Doha, February 19: Carlos Alcaraz secured his place in the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open with a straight-sets victory over Valentin Royer, winning 6-2, 7-5. At one point in the second set, Alcaraz was trailing 2-5, but he rallied to win five consecutive games, ensuring his advancement to the next round.

After the match, Alcaraz expressed his satisfaction, stating, “I’m very happy to have found my rhythm and played good tennis again. I know tennis is about just one point, and sometimes finishing a set or match can be really tough. I won’t lie; there were moments when I thought about the third set. I’m glad I turned it around and won in straight sets.”

In the quarterfinals, Alcaraz will face seventh seed Karen Khachanov, who defeated Marton Fucsovics 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 on Wednesday. Khachanov was the champion of the Qatar Open in 2024.

Alcaraz is currently on a 27-match winning streak on outdoor hard courts, a streak that began after his title win at the Cincinnati Open last August.

At just 22 years old, Alcaraz is seeking his first Qatar Open title after losing in the quarterfinals to Jiri Lehecka during his event debut last year.

In the other half of Alcaraz’s draw, the second quarterfinal will feature fifth seed and defending champion Andrey Rublev against Stefanos Tsitsipas. Rublev defeated Fabian Marozsan 6-2, 6-4, while former world number three Tsitsipas reached his first tour-level quarterfinal in ten months by overcoming fourth seed Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-4.
