New Delhi, July 22: The Delhi Police have released Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra following their detention during a protest outside the Prime Minister‘s residence. The two were taken into custody after a demonstration on July 20, where several opposition leaders marched from Parliament House to the Prime Minister’s residence to protest police actions against students.
During the protest, Union Minister Jitendra Singh attempted to engage with the leaders, but discussions proved unproductive. When asked to disperse, the protesters refused, leading the police to forcibly transport the leaders to various locations. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was taken to the Mandir Marg police station, while Rahul Gandhi was moved to Chhatrasal Stadium.
After their release, Priyanka Gandhi spoke to the media, stating that no dialogue had occurred with the authorities. She emphasized that the issue would be raised again in Parliament. “My brother is very strong; he can endure this. What happened to the students on Monday was wrong. These children and youth are the future of our country. When we ask for a discussion in Parliament, they talk about Vande Mataram. What does that mean? If we cannot protect our youth and if we oppress our children, how will we move forward?”
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi took to social media platform X, declaring, “Prime Minister Modi, use all your strength; this fight for justice for students will not stop or bend.”
