Ranchi, August 11: BJP legislator Raj Sinha from Dhanbad has written a letter to Assembly Speaker Ravindra Nath Mahto, alleging that BJP members were detained outside the Chief Minister’s residence during a protest. He has requested the initiation of privilege violation proceedings against the Ranchi district administration and police officials.
In his letter, Sinha stated that on August 10, several BJP legislators, including Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi and the party’s chief whip, visited the Chief Minister to discuss student protests and alleged irregularities in the JPSC-JSSC examinations, as well as the state’s law and order situation.
Sinha accused the district administration and police of blocking all legislators at a public location near the Chief Minister’s residence, followed by their forceful detention. He claimed this action disrespected the dignity of the legislators and hindered their constitutional duties.
The letter noted that BJP legislators were held during the Assembly session. Sinha alleged that they were prevented from participating in the proceedings without prior notice or legal justification. According to him, the legislators were detained around 11 AM and held for nearly 10 hours at the Camp Jail in Sports Village.
The BJP leader emphasized that detaining opposition legislators during an Assembly session is a serious issue. This prevented them from raising crucial matters concerning the public and students. He described it as a violation of the legislators’ privileges and urged the Assembly Speaker to take cognizance of the matter and file a privilege violation case against the relevant officials of the Ranchi district administration.
It is noteworthy that on August 10, amidst student protests against alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations, BJP legislators unexpectedly gathered near the Chief Minister’s residence and staged a sit-in. Subsequently, police detained several leaders and legislators, including Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi and state BJP president Aditya Sahu, holding them at the Camp Jail in Sports Village.
