Prime Minister Modi Shares Gita Verse on Faith and Conduct

PM Modi emphasizes the connection between faith and personal conduct, sharing a verse from the Gita on social media.

New Delhi, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media on Thursday to share a Sanskrit verse that highlights the relationship between a person’s faith and their thoughts and actions. The verse, sourced from Chapter 17, Verse 3 of the Bhagavad Gita, states: “Sattvanurupa sarvasya shraddha bhavati Bharat. Shraddhamayo’yam purusho yo yachraddhah sa eva sah.”

This verse conveys that each individual’s faith reflects their inner nature and character. Modi explained that a person’s thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors are outcomes of their faith. Essentially, one’s entire personality is shaped by the level of faith they possess.

The verse comes from a section of the Mahabharata where Arjuna asks Lord Krishna about the nature of devotion when individuals worship based solely on their personal faith, rather than adhering strictly to scriptural guidelines. In response, Krishna elaborates that the nature of our faith ultimately determines the direction of our lives, influenced by the qualities of our minds. This dialogue serves to clarify the different types of faith as explained by Krishna.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Modi emphasized the importance of protecting and nurturing nature for the welfare and prosperity of all. He quoted another Sanskrit saying: “Palayan prakritim raja sukhi bhavati na anyatha. Prakritischahita yasya sa raja sarvakamahdhuk.” This translates to, “A ruler who protects nature and works towards its welfare ensures its happiness and prosperity, fulfilling the hopes of those who care for it.”

Through these teachings, Modi aims to inspire a deeper understanding of faith and environmental stewardship among the public.
