Flávio Bolsonaro Claims Leadership from the U.S. After Election Loss in Brazil

Flávio Bolsonaro, after losing the election, claims leadership from the U.S. and alleges electoral fraud while addressing supporters online.

Brasília, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and a defeated candidate in the recent presidential election, has issued an open letter on social media platform X after arriving in the United States. In his message, he positioned himself as a leader for Brazil, alleging electoral fraud without presenting any evidence. He criticized the Supreme Federal Court (STF) for overstepping its jurisdiction regarding electoral matters.

He asserted that an order to extend voting hours was issued after the official polling had closed, creating unequal treatment for voters. However, official results indicated that current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the runoff election by over four million votes.

According to Brazilian media, only about 34,300 votes were cast after the original deadline of 5 PM, a number significantly lower than Lula’s winning margin. The STF had extended voting hours to 7 PM due to complaints about voter access, but this applied only to polling places that remained open after 5 PM, and closed centers were not reopened.

In his letter, Flávio expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump and Argentine President Javier Milei. He emphasized that he has not fled Brazil, stating his intention to lead the opposition from abroad.

Flávio’s departure has drawn attention because STF Justice Alexandre de Moraes had ordered him to surrender his passport and prohibited him from leaving the country in connection with an investigation into money laundering and illegal transfers abroad.

Meanwhile, U.S. media reported that a senior official stated the U.S. State Department would issue visas to Flávio Bolsonaro and his family, allowing them entry into the United States.

According to results released by Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court, President Lula received 51.79 percent of valid votes, while Flávio Bolsonaro garnered 48.21 percent. Additionally, reports indicated that Justice de Moraes had ordered Bolsonaro to surrender his passport to federal police and barred him from traveling abroad.
