
Kolkata, May 9: The selection of Suvendu Adhikari as the leader of the BJP legislative party has sparked excitement among party workers and leaders in West Bengal. Celebrations erupted among BJP supporters across various regions, marking what many see as the beginning of significant political change in the state.
BJP legislator Debashish Dhar remarked that party workers have faced numerous struggles and challenges over the past five years. He emphasized that the time for action and change has now arrived. Dhar also accused the Trinamool Congress of engaging in corruption and illegal activities.
He described this moment as a “moral victory,” claiming that since 2021, the state administration has continuously harassed them, yet they persevered in their struggle.
Another BJP legislator, Swapan Dasgupta, stated that this achievement is the result of the long-standing efforts of BJP workers. He noted that they endured ridicule and oppression for years, but ultimately, the public has rallied behind the BJP.
BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar called it a “day of joy,” urging everyone to work together towards building a “Sonar Bangla” (Golden Bengal).
Legislator Sajal Ghosh expressed pride in the journey he and Suvendu Adhikari have shared, from student politics to now, celebrating Adhikari’s ascension to the chief ministership.
Phalguni Patra, president of the BJP’s women’s wing, highlighted women’s safety as a top priority for the new government. She pointed out the rising crimes against women in the state and assured that the BJP government would take stringent measures in this regard.
Patra also mentioned that the oath-taking ceremony for the chief minister would be historic, with top party leaders, the Union Home Minister, and the Prime Minister in attendance.
BJP legislator Chandrashekhar Banerjee, who has been associated with Suvendu Adhikari since 1997, expressed immense joy among workers at this long-awaited moment.
Legislator Bankim Chandra Ghosh noted that all legislators united to support Adhikari, generating enthusiasm among party workers.
Ratna Debnath’s husband, Shekhar Ranjan Debnath, stated that the party considers Suvendu Adhikari the most suitable candidate for the chief minister’s role.
Former cricketer and BJP legislator Ashok Dinda remarked that he has known Suvendu Adhikari for a long time and praised his strong opposition to the Trinamool Congress.
Sonam Kinnar, a former transgender state minister from Uttar Pradesh, shared that the transgender community in West Bengal supports the BJP and is delighted with Adhikari’s election as chief minister.
Legislator Rekha Patra emphasized that the state needed a chief minister who could protect the interests of women and Hindus.
