Chandigarh, March 25: A delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Punjab unit chief Sunil Jakhar, met with Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Wednesday. They demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the alleged suicide of Divisional Magistrate Gagandeep Singh Randhawa.
Speaking to the media, Jakhar stated, “How can we expect a fair investigation from a government whose ministers are themselves under scrutiny?” He emphasized that the deceased’s family and the people of Punjab are calling for a CBI investigation to ensure justice.
Jakhar criticized Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for focusing on campaigning in Gujarat instead of addressing the concerns of the people seeking justice. He questioned the government’s sensitivity, pointing out that senior officials like the Chief Secretary and DGP were seen participating in political activities at a rally in Moga.
“This is why the party approached the Governor to demand a CBI inquiry,” Jakhar said. He noted that the opposition plays a crucial role in democracy, but in Punjab, it seems the Congress is operating under the influence of Chief Minister Mann.
He recalled that Congress MPs had previously called for a CBI inquiry in Parliament. However, when Union Home Minister Amit Shah requested them to submit a written request, some Congress members backed down under pressure from the Chief Minister. Jakhar remarked that this demonstrates how Congress has capitulated to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
In conclusion, Jakhar affirmed that the BJP is committed to fighting for justice and will urge all elected representatives to write to authorities demanding a CBI inquiry. He stressed that this struggle will continue until justice is served.
The BJP delegation included acting state president Ashwini Sharma, along with party leaders Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Som Prakash, Tikshan Sud, Manpreet Singh Badal, Keval Singh Dhillon, Jangi Lal Mahajan, Dinesh Singh Babbu, Jeevan Gupta, Sarbdeep Singh Virk, Anil Sareen, Parminder Singh Barad, Harvinder Singh Sandhu, Harjeet Singh, Amarpal Singh Boni, Rajbir Sharma, and Vineet Joshi.
