Panaji, March 23: The South Goa police arrested 20-year-old Soham Sushant Naik early Monday morning in connection with an alleged sex scandal involving 25 to 30 minor girls. Naik, the son of a BJP councillor from the Curtorim municipality, was taken into custody as a local crowd protested outside the police station.
Initial reports suggest that Naik is accused of engaging in sexual relations with several minor girls. He allegedly recorded these incidents and later used the videos to intimidate the victims into silence.
The case came to light last week when Naik reportedly boasted about his actions at a social gathering, showing the inappropriate videos to his friends. As rumors of the sexual exploitation videos spread across South Goa, local tensions escalated.
Prior to the arrest, the matter had been a topic of discussion in the area for several days. On Sunday night, local residents gathered near the Kudchade police station, demanding action due to the involvement of a local BJP councillor’s son. Eventually, police detained Soham Naik.
This action followed an incident where Naik displayed videos to friends at a recent party, revealing a disturbing pattern of alleged sexual exploitation of minors over the years.
On Sunday, residents of Curtorim marched to the police station, calling for a fair investigation into the alleged sex racket videos involving minors. Protesters warned that if the police did not arrest the accused within 48 hours, they would call for a shutdown. They also demanded that the police take immediate action without waiting for the victims to come forward.
Goa Congress President Amit Patkar urged the government to intervene, take cognizance of the matter, and ensure a swift, fair, and timely investigation into this horrific case.
The South Goa police are currently examining digital evidence to determine the extent of the exploitation of minors by Soham Sushant Naik. The accused remains in custody while forensic teams are reportedly working to recover the videos used for blackmail.
