BJP Core Group Meeting to Finalize Candidates for Upcoming Assembly Elections

New Delhi, March 17: A crucial meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) core group will take place on Tuesday to finalize strategies for the upcoming assembly elections. This meeting will be held at the residence of Union Minister JP Nadda, focusing on the selection of candidates for Assam, Puducherry, West Bengal, and Kerala.

Sources indicate that the discussions will particularly revolve around potential candidates for Assam and Puducherry. Additionally, there will be deliberations on seats in West Bengal and Kerala where candidates have yet to be announced. The party leadership aims to select strong and effective candidates, considering the prospects of winning in these states.

Several senior leaders from the party will be present at the meeting, including prominent figures like BJP leader Nitin Naveen, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and JP Nadda. Members of the core groups from all four states will also participate in this significant gathering.

It is reported that the party leadership will make final decisions on candidates based on electoral strategy, local dynamics, and organizational feedback. The BJP is being cautious in its candidate selection as part of its strategy to strengthen its organization and secure more seats in these states. The outcomes of this meeting will likely have a clear impact on the party’s electoral preparations and future strategies.

The Election Commission announced the assembly elections for Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal on Sunday. Voting in Bengal will occur in two phases on April 23 and April 29. Elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry will be held in a single phase, with voting scheduled for April 9 in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry, and April 23 in Tamil Nadu. The results for all five states will be declared on May 4.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated that there are 174 million voters across these five states/Union Territories, with elections taking place for 824 seats. The announcement for the previous elections in these five states was made on February 26, 2021. In the last election, Bengal had voting in eight phases.
