Ranchi, August 10: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a statewide shutdown in Jharkhand on August 11 to support ongoing student protests against irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations. BJP state president Aditya Sahu and opposition leader Babulal Marandi shared this information during a press conference at the party office on Monday night.
The BJP leaders accused the state government of ignoring the students’ demands and using excessive force against protesters during the assembly siege on Monday. Marandi stated that disputes regarding competitive examinations and recruitment processes have been a recurring issue in the state for several years.
The party reiterated its demand for a fair investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into these matters. They noted that a large number of students have been protesting for several days at the Jaypal Singh Munda Stadium, with their primary demands including the cancellation of the disputed examinations and a CBI inquiry into the entire issue.
The BJP alleged that during the assembly siege on Monday, police used tear gas, water cannons, and batons to disperse the students, resulting in injuries to several protesters. They also accused the administration of taking action to dismantle the tents set up at the protest site. The party has sought answers from the government regarding various recruitment processes related to JPSC and JSSC.
BJP leaders raised concerns about alleged irregularities in several recruitment processes, including the CGL examination by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), assistant professors, postgraduate teachers (PGT), and product soldiers. They also mentioned the arrests made in connection with the 14th JPSC preliminary examination case.
The BJP leaders expressed that students do not trust the state’s investigative agencies, thus calling for a CBI inquiry into all related matters. Aditya Sahu also targeted Congress and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, stating that while Congress raises issues for students in other states, its stance on the CBI inquiry demand from protesting students in Jharkhand remains unclear.
The shutdown will commence at 8 AM and continue until late at night on August 11. Health services and the travel of Kanwariyas to religious sites in Deoghar will be exempt from the shutdown. The party emphasized its support for the students and urged the government to resolve their demands through dialogue.
BJP leaders warned that if there is any further use of force or mistreatment of students, the party will intensify its protests.
