Patna, April 6: Akhtarul Iman, the AIMIM MLA from Amour and chairperson of the Bihar Assembly’s Minority Welfare Committee, has launched a scathing attack on the state government. He stated that Bihar is not progressing but rather heading towards destruction.
In an interview, Iman remarked, “The education system in Bihar has been in shambles for several years. Health services are crumbling. The government’s treasury is empty. All development work has come to a standstill. For the first time, the budget has increased, but funding for development schemes has been reduced. Bihar is moving towards ruin, not progress.”
He also commented on the Women’s Reservation Bill, targeting the central government. He said, “With assembly elections ongoing in five states, MPs will be busy campaigning for their parties or participating in parliamentary proceedings. This is not the right time. This bill should have been introduced much earlier or postponed until after the elections. The BJP seems to want to turn this into an electoral issue.”
Additionally, he opposed the decision regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Gujarat. He accused the government of targeting specific communities under the guise of the UCC.
“This bill is illegal. It violates fundamental rights. Equality means the same rules for everyone. When different rules are applied, it is not equal. The UCC is being used to target specific groups,” he stated.
Recently, the Gujarat Assembly passed the Uniform Civil Code Bill after hours of debate. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel presented the bill, making Gujarat the second state in the country to adopt the UCC, following Uttarakhand, which passed the bill in February 2024.
The ‘Gujarat Uniform Civil Code, 2026’ law will be implemented statewide. However, the bill clarifies that this code will not apply to members of Scheduled Tribes (ST) and certain groups whose traditional rights are protected under the Constitution.
