Bihar Launches FCM Therapy to Combat Anemia in Pregnant Women

Patna, March 26: The Bihar Health Department has initiated a new effort to address the serious issue of anemia among pregnant women. This initiative includes the introduction of Ferric Carboxymaltose (FCM) therapy.

FCM therapy will serve as a protective measure for pregnant women at risk during childbirth due to blood deficiency. Bihar’s Health Minister, Mangal Pandey, inaugurated the state-level FCM therapy campaign in Patna on Thursday.

Various nursing college students, ASHA workers, and health department officials from all districts participated in the event via video conferencing. The health minister stated that this initiative marks a significant and far-reaching step towards effective treatment and rapid management of anemia.

He emphasized that FCM therapy will act as a safety net for pregnant women suffering from anemia. With the serious issue of anemia among pregnant women in mind, the NDA government is committed to ensuring safe motherhood and improved health services through this campaign. The therapy will provide timely and effective treatment for women suffering from severe anemia, reducing risks during childbirth.

To achieve the goal of an ‘Anemia-Free Bihar,’ adequate arrangements have been made in district hospitals and first referral units. In Gaya, pregnant women have already begun receiving FCM therapy at one hospital. Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajaram Prasad and other senior health officials were present at the event.

Dr. Prasad noted that all necessary arrangements have been directed for administering this therapy to all pregnant women affected by anemia. He mentioned that a selection of district health institutions, such as district hospitals and first referral units, has been made to accommodate twenty beds for this initiative. With the campaign’s launch, 20 pregnant women suffering from anemia received FCM therapy at the hospital, along with essential medications.
